Country estate Doornburgh

Maarssen

Enjoying a cup of coffee with homemade pastel de nata in the courtyard garden, a guided tour of the former monastery or a lovely walk through the historic park by the Vecht: it is all possible at the former Doornburgh monastery near Utrecht.

The main house in the country estate has existed since the 17th century. The unusual, modern monastery building was added in the 1960s to the design of Bossche School architect Jan de Jong. On weekends, there are guided tours that take you past the architectural highlights of the former monastery and through the 18th-century period rooms in the main house.

Monastery kitchen
The lunch menu is inspired by nature at Doornburgh and life in a monastery. Local products as well as products from our own vegetable garden, located between the Vecht and the monastery, take centre stage. Think fresh salads with herbs from the land, fresh vegetable soup and delicious sourdough sandwiches.

The covered terrace in the courtyard garden is a lovely spot in the (late) summer. If the garden is not in bloom, the distinct architecture provides the wow-effect. And extra special: in the refectory, you can sit at the original tables, which architect Jan de Jong designed especially for the monastic order that occupied the monastery until 2017.

To go
It is also possible to take coffee to go. With a coffee to go, you can also take a seat on the terrace overlooking the vegetable garden. Don't forget to say hello to the cows and chickens?

Park
The park of Doornburgh Estate has undergone several changes over the centuries. The disappearance of three neighbouring estates enlarged the park from 0.85 hectares to over 9 hectares. At the beginning of the 19th century, the park was designed as an English landscape garden by garden architect J.D. Zocher. This style still characterises the garden of Doornburgh country estate. There are flowering plants: special spring flowers that are mostly found on castles and country estates. Numerous birds can also be seen.
