Landscape of the past
You will sail through a unique, lively yet quiet nature reserve in the middle of the Randstad. The landscape was created by peat excavation. Where the peat was cut, peat pits were created. Where the peat was laid out to dry, it is called legakkers. All this was done to extract peat, which was one of the most important fuels for centuries. The old pattern of peat pits and legakkers is still visible from the water.
Scent of the night
Discover the scent of the night! Some plants give off more scent at night to attract moths. With a bit of luck, you may also encounter a number of moths.
Good to know
- The tour will go ahead if at least four tickets are sold. If there are fewer participants, Natuurmonumenten will cancel the boat trip and you will receive a refund.
- It is an open boat, so remember to bring warm and/or rainproof clothing.
- Don't forget your binoculars!
- Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed.
- Check yourself and your children for ticks after a visit to the countryside.
