Since 1922, the Dutch Bach Society has performed the St Matthew Passion every year at the Grote Kerk in Naarden. The performance in Naarden is renowned as one of the most prestigious in the Netherlands and is the place to be for the political and cultural elite.

At this time of year, Bach’s unrivalled St Matthew Passion can be heard in many places: the suffering and death of Jesus, based on the account of his disciple Matthew, set to music. A composition that touches the heart time and time again, from the overwhelming opening to the resigned final chorus.

The traditional performances by the Netherlands Bach Society are renowned worldwide and are conducted this year by one of the finest Baroque conductors of our time: Masaaki Suzuki. Few musicians know Bach as well as the conductor, organist and harpsichordist Masaaki Suzuki.
