Ukrainian International Ballet | INdependent 24

The Ukrainian International Ballet presents INdependent 24, a double bill exploring humanity, love and beauty.

In Emotions, choreographer and dancer Dmytro Borodai tells the powerful and confronting story of Andriy Siromakha, a Ukrainian war veteran who lost an arm and a leg in an explosion. Set to a stirring musical score, the performance takes audiences on a journey through his experiences and emotions. What makes this piece truly unique is that Andriy himself takes part in the choreography, giving him the opportunity to share his story directly with the audience.

The second piece, de/het/één, choreographed by Richèl Wieles, explores the experiences of ten Ukrainian dancers who fled to the Netherlands. Through their personal stories, the ballet offers a glimpse of how they see life in the Netherlands today, from everyday observations to deeply moving experiences that are sure to leave a lasting impression. This more classical work features newly composed Ukrainian music alongside audio excerpts from interviews.
