Fort at the Ossenmarkt

Weesp

Fort at the Ossenmarkt in the fortified town of Weesp was built to defend the two banks of the Vecht, the locks, and the Amsterdam–Hilversum railway with the bridge over the Vecht. The tower fort on the Ossenmarkt dates from 1861. Today the fort functions as a multi-company building. The former engineering site houses a garden shop and the wooden artillery lead is used as an exhibition space. There are also various associations and a music school in the building. The fort is not freely accessible to the public but is open to a limited extent on certain occasions.
