Every evening at 9 pm, the bell in the tower rings; this custom dates back to when Muiden had city gates. The bell was rung before the gate locks, signalling the residents to go home for supper. In many cases, people at that time ate porridge in the evening, hence the name papklok. Concerts are also regularly organised in the church.
