Just outside the centre of Vecht village Maarssen is the stately country house of the Goudestein estate. It is one of the first estates along the Vecht to be built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, the building is used as the town hall and you can get married there.
Building style & appearance
It is built in neo-classical style. The white framing of the entrance hall extends over two floors and makes it look impressive. The house features stucco ceilings decorated with stucco mouldings and rocaille ornaments in Louis XV style.
The park
The surrounding landscaped park is publicly accessible. The park borders the Doornburgh country estate and consists of lawns, groups of trees, winding paths and ponds. The landscaping of the gardens probably dates from the period 1808-1836.

Vechtstreek Museum
Right next to Goudestein is the Vechtstreek Museum (in the former country house Silversteijn), where you can delve into the history of the Vecht region and its inhabitants. You will also find a Tourist Information Office here.
Entrance gate from the 18th century
A striking feature is the wrought-iron entrance gate to the estate on Diependaalsedijk, on which 'Goudestein' can be read in gracefully curling letters. There is also such an entrance gate on the Vecht side. Both date from around 1755.
