A Jewish family from Bussum, father, mother and six children, find themselves facing an impossible choice when the deportations begin in 1942. Going into hiding seems unthinkable for a family of eight. Who would ever open their doors to so many people?
Yet someone does. A working class family on the Vaartweg, just around the corner from Filmhuis Bussum, decides to take that risk. For nearly three years, all eight of them share a single bedroom. Through two police raids, gnawing hunger, endless boredom and constant fear, the family holds on, sustained by a quiet network of resistance fighters from Bussum and Naarden. And when liberation finally comes, the story finds an unexpected and deeply romantic ending. A powerful documentary about a piece of history that unfolded right here, on familiar streets.
